Be careful of the company you keep.
Recently I have spoken to a number of people who are facing a challenge in their professional life concerning the unethical behavior of those around them. In some cases it is a co-worker, and in other cases, unfortunately, a supervisor or business owner. While they are generally happy in their position, they are uneasy about the character of certain individuals – especially when it concerns telling the truth.
My advice is based on what my mother told me when I was young. Be careful of the company you keep. It is unfortunate, but true, that if you associate with bad characters, their flaws may rub off on you. Even if you are strong enough to prevent being contaminated, how much time and energy are you willing to put forth to insulate yourself? In the end, it is far better to move on than to remain in a bad situation.
